swappy...

Finally finished with my February swap block! Melissa asked for a machine appliqued tree block similar to the cluck. cluck. sew. tutorial. I auditioned alot of designs to try and incorporate a little bit of me into the design. I actually drew this pattern out with my tablet [getting a little better at drawing on my computer, yea for me!] She sent along steam-a-seam 2 and I LOVED working with it :] Because of the tackiness of the adhesive, you could play around with where you wanted your pieces until you ironed it to make it permanent. Another plus was that it was much easier to take the backing paper off of the fabric without removing the adhesive in the process - I end up with alot more frayed edges when I use wonder under. I think with my next JoAnn's coupon I might experiment with it some more!

Oh, by the way: you MUST check out the giveaway over at a la mode fabric :] she is a little crazy and it is showing up in what she is voluntarily giving away!

indian summer...

Alright, you got me, this post is not crafty. I just happen to have the most darling little pooch on the face of the planet. (no offense to my pet owning friends - I am confident you feel the same way about your four legged companions) This September marked the third year that Sophia brightened our home. We rescued her from a dog pound in Columbiana county. She has been enjoying the warm fall weather almost as much as I have. Her latest trick is to seek out acorns and attempt to eat them before we notice. This photo is from one of our walks today - hope you enjoy!

Had to include this gem, not a day goes by that Sophie doesn't have something comically attached to her beard!

falling...

Football games, the fair, hoodies, colorful leaves - it's fall! I'm sure I will soon be ready for warm summer afternoons, but for now I enjoy chilly mornings perfect for snuggling up with my favorite quilt. I have a few fall-ish projects that have been in the works.

Derrick and I have returned to the task of home-making; making little paper houses that is. I really enjoy creating 'putz' houses for Christmas - you know all those little cardboard houses you find at flea markets for under your tree? We tested out a spooky fall variation - what do you think?
I like the bat, he adds some whimsy; and the pumpkins are painted pebbles (why buy when you can create :) The base is matte board covered with real dried leaves. There is a circle punched in the back of the house the perfect size for a little Christmas light - the windows are made of vellum so it gives off a spooky glow!

They are quite the time consuming little buggers, we enjoy being together with our faithful partners, Mulder & Scully. (sadly, we have just requested the FINAL season from the library - just one more season of our favorite conspiracy theorists...)

Also on the seasonal end of things, a little stuffed turkey, not for consumption, please.

I was in the card making mood for a while and created a few, these little owls were just too cute to pass up. I think they make great little notes for any fall occasion.

note: all of these items have just debuted in my etsy shop (it's fall over there now too!). check it out if you get a chance.
